Brief personal history and journey towards beginning your CrossFit excursion:

Both my mom and maternal grandmother had type 2 diabetes. My mom died from breast and ovarian cancer, and my grandmother died from breast cancer. I vowed that I wouldn’t go down that same path. I’ve never had to be conscious of what I ate and how much exercise I got. When my mom got sick, it made me take a step back and reevaluate my lifestyle. I used to smoke cigarettes and eat junk food and drink soda all of the time. In my late 20’s I went through a divorce and at that time found out that I had IBS, so I was forced to change my diet right away. A year after that my mom died. I knew that I HAD to make and stick to some major lifestyle changes.

What brought you to CrossFit Oshkosh?

Prior to joining CrossFit, I did Jazzercise (no laughing) for 4 years. I had plateaued and wasn’t getting any benefit from it anymore, I lost interest and was barely going to classes. I had been researching CrossFit for close to a year before I joined. A friend of mine was posting things on FB about it, and that’s what sparked my interest.

Your first impression of CrossFit Oshkosh?

I was super stoaked to join. Then Austin showed me a video of a snatch…then I got worried and wasn’t sure if I’d made the right choice. I mean come on, who am I at the age of 34, to join CrossFit with a bunch of college kids!!! After going through the on ramp, I knew without a doubt that I had made the right decision to better not only my physical health, but my mental health as well.

What has been your biggest hurdle since starting?

The technique with some of the Oly lifts…And double unders…but, with the unbelievable patience of the Coaches, and the immense amount of support from everyone in the community, I don’t get as easily discouraged.

What is your favorite aspect of CrossFit?

Hands down the community! I love that there isn’t anyone who thinks they’re better than anyone else regardless of their skill level. I also love that I get my ass kicked on a regular basis and it shows that I’m a much stronger person because of it.

What are your current goals in CrossFit?

GAINS Baby! LOL – seriously, to do the absolute best that I possibly can, and continue to get better each and every day. Exercise keeps the body and mind alive.

What is something we don’t know about you?

LOL, probably not much. I’m a pretty open book.

I did used to deliver and clean porta potties for a job….
