Brief personal history and journey towards beginning your CrossFit journey:
As a kid I was always very active. In high school I played high school soccer and basketball as well as club soccer. My life pretty much revolved around school and sports. Once I began my freshman year of college in 2013, I found I had all this freedom and neglected physical activity resulting in that good old freshman 15. Second semester rolled around and I decided something had to change. My roommate and I began training for a half marathon in February of 2014, and by that May I had ran my first half in Madison with a time of 2 hrs and 15 min. Running became a huge passion of mine and I became a half marathon nut. By winter of 2017 I ran 6 half marathons and I hit a record time of 1 hr and 57 min. After that I hit a plateau and got bored of running. I couldn’t beat any of my times. I tried doing the typical lifting schedule with 30 min cardio but I got bored and just couldn’t stick with it. My fiancé’s family all had joined CrossFit Oshkosh and told me to give it a shot. I am so happy I did because I found something I love just as much I loved running!
What brought you to CrossFit Oshkosh?
My fiance’s family were all members and told me to join!
Your first impression of CrossFit Oshkosh?
At first I was a little intimidated. I came for my No Sweat Intro and people were doing muscle ups on the rig and handstand push ups. Once I came to my first class though I found that everyone was SUPER helpful and things could be modified so that I could build up strength at my own pace.
What has been your biggest hurdle since starting?
BURPEES. I HATE THEM.
What is your favorite aspect of CrossFit?
The community atmosphere and all of the incredible people I have met. People are always cheering you on, giving you advice, and looking out for you. I have never been a part of something that was so awesome! I also LOVE that the workouts kick my butt. Being a half marathon runner, I never really took the time to lift and focus on body weight movements. This has really given me a new passion for fitness and has motivated me to set goals I never thought I would be able to do (pull ups).
What are your current goals in CrossFit?
Get a pull up without band assistance and lose 10% body fat by going to crossfit 4-5 days a week and maintaining a healthy diet.
What is something we don’t know about you?
The last race I ran was a 19.3 mile challenge in Disney World (my most favorite place in the whole wide world). I got to run through all of the parks and meet characters along the way. I am obsessed with Cheez- its, unfortunately. I also have a black lab/pitbull mix named Teddy and he is my best friend (and so is my fiance 🙂 ) !
