Brief personal history and journey towards beginning your CrossFit journey:
I grew up in Twin Cities and like most kids from Minnesota played hockey as much as I could. I played into my early twenties and that helped keep me active. I quit playing around 20 and spent the next 5+ years getting really out of shape! About 10 years ago I decided I wanted to get back to playing hockey and being healthy. Along the way I’ve tried gym memberships, endurance sports, home work out routines and more. I lost weight and certainly improved my health but nothing felt like a complete and total approach to fitness. Then this past spring I hit a wall and felt like I needed something new. I have a hockey friend that has been a member at an Appleton box for a while. He has always impressed me with his fitness and his excitement when talking about his workouts. So I thought I should do what he’s doing, or at least check it out. I regret not doing it sooner!
What brought you to CrossFit Oshkosh?
I live in Clayton near HWY 76 and work in Oshkosh so I drive by the box about every day. I knew it was there so scheduled a no-sweat intro and quickly knew I had to try it out.
Your first impression of CrossFit Oshkosh?
Humbling, challenging and fun. I was learning so many new terms, lifts, movements, etc. (still am) and much of it is/was so different and more difficult than most anything I had done previously. Everyone at CFO was super friendly throughout and I felt like I could ask anyone a question on a movement, whether they were a coach or a member, and they would be happy to give me advice.
What has been your biggest hurdle since starting?
DOUBLE UNDERS! Second would be kipping toe to bar/pull ups…and anything where I have to get under the bar!
What is your favorite aspect of CrossFit?
The wide range and variety of fitness that CrossFit provides would have to be my favorite. I know it is cliche, but a very close second is the community of members and staff. I enjoy spending time around so many like minded people who want to get the most out of their fitness and enjoy challenging themselves to improve.
What are your current goals in CrossFit?
Again…DOUBLE UNDERS! I’m working at 50 unbroken by the first of the year. Others include BW bench press and 10 unbroken PU.
What is something we don’t know about you?
My wife Erica and I have 3 amazing little ones at home 7, 4, and 1…all future cross-fitters. The kids that is, not sure I can convince Erica 🙂
Otherwise nothing too crazy; I’m a pilot professionally and work for a company I co-own based out of Oshkosh and Appleton.
